Influenza ("The Flu")

Email this page to a friend

This page offers information about a health issue that is receiving considerable media attention and is understandably a concern for parents: influenza, more commonly known as “the flu.”

Boston Public Schools is working closely with public health agencies, school nurses, and others to provide information to families and staff about simple ways to help students reduce their risk of contracting the flu. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that all children 6 months through 18 years of age be vaccinated against the flu every year. Vaccinations can be obtained through your family doctor or at a neighborhood health center, among other locations.

Additionally, parents and guardians of students in the Boston Public Schools can bring their children to the Boston Public Health Commission’s office (1010 Massachusetts Ave., 2nd Floor) February 24-26, 2009 (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a free influenza vaccination and information about influenza.
