Budget
In March 2008, the Boston School Committee approved Superintendent Carol R. Johnson's proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2009 (July 1, 2008 - June 30, 2009) in the amount of $846,222,260. The budget is designed to provide the financial resources to carry out the educational priorities for the Boston Public Schools.
The FY2009 Budget also includes new investments to support the Superintendent's "Acceleration Agenda" to ensure the academic success of all students, including:
- “Graduation for All”: new supports for dropout prevention and recovery, $2.8 million
- Kindergarten 1: seven new pre-school classrooms for four-year-olds, $1.9 million
- K–8 schools: six schools expanding to Grade 8, $1.2 million
- Music, arts and other enrichment opportunities, $550,000
- Pre-K through Grade 12 Literacy Curriculum, $500,000
- Advanced Placement courses: beginning of 5-year effort to double the number of AP offerings, $300,000
- International Baccalaureate in two high schools, $100,000
