Superintendent Payzant selected as a Public Official of the Year

BOSTON - Superintendent Thomas W. Payzant was named last night as one of eight Public Officials of the Year by Governing Magazine. He is the second Boston official to be recognized, with Mayor Thomas M. Menino selected as a Public Official of the Year in 2001. The magazine cited Superintendent Payzant's "back-to-basics approach and focus on more effective teacher training" as cause for "enviable improvements in student performance."
