Renovation, relocation and reprogramming proposals

On November 30, 2005, the Boston School Committee approved the following recommendations from Superintendent Payzant

Burke High School - 60 Washington Street, Dorchester, MA 02121

  • Relocate all Burke High School students and staff to the King Middle School building, 77 Lawrence Ave., for SY2006-2007 and SY2007-2008.

King Middle School - 77 Lawrence Avenue, Dorchester, MA 02121

  • Relocate King Middle School students and staff to the Frank V. Thompson Building for SY2006-2007, SY2007-2008 and SY2008-2009.
  • Relocate the King School to the Lawrence Avenue Building in SY2009-2010, possibly as a K1-8 School, retaining the name of Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • Establish a planning process (including community) to plan for reprogramming of the King School.

NOTE: The King will remain a citywide school, with no walk zone priority.

Cleveland Middle School - 11 Charles Street, Dorchester, MA 02122

  • Do not assign Grade 6 beginning in SY2006-2007.
