Kitchen Table Talks

Throughout the summer, representatives of the BuildBPS management team engaged families in "Kitchen Table Talks" about the project.

Kitchen Table Talks are an engagement tool based on the premise that the best conversations happen around a kitchen table. The BuildBPS team will set up a kitchen table at parks, festivals, and family events across the city throughout the summer and invite attendees to join informal conversations about the 10-year educational and facilities master plan. The talks are facilitated by staff from BPS and the City of Boston.

Education Planning discussion

Thank you to everyone who attended!  About 100 parents, staff, members of the advisory committees, and others came together at the Bolling Building on Saturday, June 4 for a community forum about the 10-Year Educational and Facilities Master Plan.

  • heard from Superintendent Dr. Tommy Chang about how BuildBPS is helping to shape the future of the school district;
  • participated in breakout sessions to learn more and ask questions about facility assessments, demographics, and educational planning;
  • shared ideas about designing BPS schools and classrooms for 21st century teaching and learning;
  • reviewed preliminary findings from school building assessments already completed;
  • learned how demographic projections may affect BPS enrollment and planning.

Teachers also attended a session about BuildBPS at the Boston Teachers Union (BTU) Professional Learning Conference, also held on June 4.
